Nancy Schmid We’ve lost our beloved Dairy Queen of Tillamook. At nearly 90 years old, Nancy loved all things dairy, and us, of course. Life was long, and not always sunny, but give the nice lady a Frosty from Wendy’s, and her smile would light up your world! Nancy Ann Rusher Musgrove Schmid died on July 5, 2018 in Milwaukie, Oregon following a long battle with heart failure and a short, well-fought battle with loss of independence. She was born November 18, 1928 in Albany, Oregon, daughter of Glenn Odell Rusher and Hermion Darling Rusher. She was raised in Tillamook, Oregon, attended Oregon State College, then graduated from University of Oregon College of Nursing in 1951. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Nancy lived far and near, Far East and Deep South, then came home full circle to her native Oregon after being widowed last year. She made homes for her young family in Japan & Okinawa, in Tampa, Florida and Clinton, Mississippi, as well as in California, Wyoming, Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Alabama. She was a gracious role model for going with the flow, and taking on challenges and volunteer projects all over the globe. She once took a nursing position at a Spanish-speaking hospital, although she only knew a few phrases in the language! Mom took us school-age kids to Montreal, Quebec for Expo ’67, all by herself, to expose us to travel and culture and her lifelong game of people-watching she called “Rampant Speculation”! Nancy wrote poetry, left-handed at that, loved to read, sang in the Episcopal church choir and was involved in the Church, especially Church of the Creator in Clinton, Mississippi. Mrs. Schmid was the widow of William Arthur Schmid of Clinton, Mississippi. She was also widowed as a young mother, when Major John D.Musgrove of Sutherlin, Oregon, died in action in South Vietnam in 1965. Mrs. Schmid is survived by her children and their spouses; Doug Musgrove and Harriet Hardiman of Portland, OR, John Musgrove and Christina Murphy of San Francisco, CA, Becky and Steve Irby of Port Orchard, WA; and four granddaughters, Alexandra Irby (Scott Daigle), Carly Irby, Hazel Kleingrove, and Ivy Musgrove; as well as 2 great-grandsons, Logan and Leo Daigle. in addition, she is survived by her stepchildren and spouses, Jane and Gary Williams, Dr. Bill and Claire Schmid, Kay and Larry Branton, Bob and June Schmid, and Paul and Jamie Schmid; and step grandchildren Dr.Jefferson Williams, Steve Williams, Lynn Kalhagan, Mary Merger, Andrew Schmid, Katie Coffee, Daphne Schmid, Dorothea Schmid, Katherine Schmid, Alexander Schmid, Parker Schmid, Emma Grace Schmid, and eleven step-great-grandchildren. Wayne D. Musgrove (Ann), of Eugene, Oregon, the brother of her first husband, the late Major John D. Musgrove, USAF, also survives her. Other survivors include nephews Mark (Diane) and Jeff (Sharon)Musgrove, nieces Janet (Mick) Elfers, Gretchen (Rich)Williams, and Micah Steinbach, and former daughter-in-law Katie Kleinsasser. Also by cousins Norma (Mike) Killgore, Charlie (Elaine)Fisher, Carma (Donald) DeBernardi, Gail Rusher Wickman, and Sandy Rusher. She has many great-nieces and nephews.
