Richard Leroy Hawley
April 14th, 1949 - January 13th, 2023
Richard L. Hawley passed away peacefully in his home in Oro Valley, AZ on January 13, 2023 at the age of 73 after a long battle with Glioblastoma, a cancer of the brain. He was born on April 14, 1949 and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pamela Hawley, his sons: Matthew (Leah) Hawley and Brett Hawley and his grandchildren Olivia and Jack as well as other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Vera Hawley, and his sister, Judy Bramer. Rick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Washington; after graduation he spent the first 25 years of his career at Coopers and Lybrand, where he was an audit partner. Rick left Coopers & Lybrand to become the CFO for Puget Sound Energy and after a brief retirement he became the CFO for Nicor, Inc. He also served on the Board of Directors for Fisher Communications for 11 years. After his retirement from Nicor, Rick served on the Board of Directors for Westar Energy / Evergy for 11 years. Rick was a devoted family man who always put his wife and children first in all things. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and taking in the desert landscape. Rick also loved working, which he would still be doing if his life had not been cut short. He left a legacy in his personal and professional life that will live on in those that knew him for many years in the future. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the ASPCA or the Ivy Brain Tumor Center at Barrow Neurological Institute.
