Kathleen Brito Nelson

Kathleen Brito Nelson, 87, of Tucson passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013. She was born in Bristol, RI on September 3, 1926. She is survived by her sons, Adam Foster Nelson, Scott Laurence (Donna) Nelson; and grandchildren, Cameron Laurence and Megan Lynn Nelson, all of Oro Valley, AZ. They remember Kathleen (Hurricane Kat) as a thoughtful, caring and loving mother, awesome grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind her brother, Joseph Brito Sr., of Bristol, RI; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence O. Nelson; parents, Caesar and Georgiana Brito; and her sister, Evelyn Brito Cataldo. She was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol, RI, Boston University, the American Russian Ballet School, and Bryant College. Kathleen was an accomplished professional dancer and performed in New York City and various venues on the East Coast. She taught Physical Education in CT and Dance in West Lafayette, IN. Kathleen moved from West Lafayette, IN, to Tucson in 1974 with her family. She started a new career in the travel industry; and in 1983, Kathleen and her family started the successful enterprise, Avenues to Travel, in Tucson. As owner, she participated in many travel industry organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rotary Foundation in Memory of Kathleen B. Nelson. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with Rosary at 6:30 p.m,. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Avenue, Tucson, AZ. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
