Memorial Keepers (1)
Affordable Mortuary
Edward Roy Markel
March 21st, 1943 - May 8th, 2008
Edward Markel Edward (Eddie) Markel was born in Brooklyn in 1943 and raised in the Williamsburg area. He attended L.I.U., Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. After graduation he worked in Greenwich Village and Long Island until 1971 when he moved to California. There he met his future wife and her 4-year-old son. He became a father to that son and a second born to them in 1979. During his career Eddie worked at several retail chains as well as the State of California/Dept of Corrections. He practiced pharmacy for 40 years before his retirement in 2007. In spite of his "prickly" personality, most who knew him saw his unfailing caring and generosity. He was the first to aid a stranded motorist or help someone down on his luck. He also worked tirelessly with his wife on animal issues; rescuing and re-homing abused and neglected dogs. He had a "good heart". Eddie leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 36 years, Monti, his sons, Joe Fort and wife Tammy, Zev Markel (and Amber Scott) of Forest Ranch and numerous loving grandchildren. He had many close friends and relatives on both coasts who will miss his sense of humor and devoted friendship. His last week of life was an especially happy time for him, having his whole family together under one roof. Eddie had an unwavering faith that this earthly life was a portal to a glorious afterlife. We sincerely pray that he had found the peace that he expected. At his request no service will be held. Donations in his memory can be made to Butte Humane Society in care of Affordable Mortuary who are handling the arrangements.
