April 22nd, 1911 - July 26th, 2017
Helen Merical, 106 of Longmont, Colorado formerly of Redfield passed away surrounded by her family on July 26, 2017. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 1st at the Redfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at East Linn Cemetery near Redfield. Memorial contributions may be left to the Helen Merical Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Helen Elizabeth Merical was born April 22, 1911 to Herman & Cora Frye near Redfield, Iowa. She attended school at the Hickory Grove Country School until she was in the 6th grade. Her family moved to Kennedy Station where she transferred to the Redfield town school and graduated. Helen married Raymond Merical September 12, 1931. They had two daughters - Shirley Belle, whom preceded her in death and Sandra Rae. She leaves behind her daughter, five grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Neighborhood Club, Thursday Club and two bridge clubs. She enjoyed most all sports. She played basketball in grades and high school, bowled for 25 years continuously for which she received a plaque for her achievement. Helen enjoyed golfing and in later years walked with her friends. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Herm and Cora Frye, her daughter, Shirley Belle Mabbitt and 3 brothers, Ralph, Gaylord and Harold Frye.
