Mr. Dee J. Epps Jr., 85, of Prunedale passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011. He was born April 15, 1926 in Cache, Oklahoma and was raised in Texas. He moved to Guadalupe, CA in 1941 where he met his wife. They were married in 1945, settled in Salinas in 1946. They started following the produce between Salinas and El Centro. He worked for many years as a box maker and forklift driver. In 1962 Dee started his own construction company, Epps Construction, where he was the general contractor. He built several homes in Salinas and the tri-county area. He worked until his retirment in 1978. Dee loved his family and loved to play with his grandkids. He loved to play pranks on anyone that would let him, then he would sit back and just laugh and laugh. That would just make his day. His hobbies included hunting, in his younger years, fishing, camping, and working with his tools. He could always find something around his property to keep him busy. Dee is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ozelma "Tink" Epps, daughter, Darlene (Pat) Martin-Fitzgerald, daughter in law, Bobbie Epps. His grandchildren, Tami Martin, Tifanie (Justin) Martin-Norton, Marsha (Kelley) Epps-Gularte, Debbie Epps, and Chester Dee (Prissy) Martin. His great grand children, Justin Evans, Krista Roach, Miranda, Cherrise, Brittany, and Bryanna Martin, Shaley and Amber Duplissie, and Garrett Norton. A great great grand daughter, Lynnae Elizabeth He is preceded in death by his son, Lynn Epps son-in-law, Chet Martin, Jr. Visitation will be held at Healey Mortuary on Tuesday from 1 to 9 PM and on Wednesday from 1 to 9 PM. Services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Healey Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas.
