James N. Combs, 64, lifelong resident of Sallinas, passed away on September 16, 2012 in Salinas. He was born on May 31, 1948 in Hanford, CA. Before his retirement; He was a Journeyman Carpenter, by trade, for over 37 years and was a member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 605 in Marina. He loved his work and missed it very much. His passion was door hardware and finish work. Most of all he loved to teach the younger ones his trade. If anyone called or stopped by it was always: "Hey James! (Colonel or Grandpa to some) "I am cutting a roof/or stairs..." Oh how his eyes lit up! And on he would go telling them how to do it. James was very active in the Salinas California Rodeo as a member of the Maintenance and Construction Committee. He loved classic cars and going to car shows. James has touched many lives and will be missed by all. James is survived by his wife, Charlene Combs son, James "J.J." daughters, Lori Rath and Apryl Rhodes grandchildren, Irie, Kathryn, Atreyu, Katelyn, Ashlyn, and Robert mother,Gracie his three brothers and one sister, Jerry, Larry, Norman, and Judy Hodge and his sister-in-law, Doleres Combs. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 3pm at the Healey Mortuary Chapel 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. A Reception will immediately follow Services from 4-7pm at the Carpenter's Local Union 605 located at 910 Second Ave. Marina, CA 93933.
