Richard "Dick" Harry Johnson of West Point, California passed away July 29th at Sutter Amador Hospital. Dick was born June 6, 1922 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He retired to West Point, California in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of West Point; sons, Bradley and wife, Leticia of Edmonds, WA, Blake of Seattle, WA, Clay and wife, Diana of Moses Lake, WA; step children, Janet Carrera and husband, Tony of Castro Valley, CA, Donald Bears and wife, Kim of Troutdale, OR; grandchildren, Kristen, Elizabeth, Brittany, Stephanie; brother, Donald of Pocasset, MA; and first wife, Marion Johnson of Bothell, WA. He was preceded in death by daughter, Janel. Dick graduated from Attleboro High School in 1940, volunteered for the US Army Air Corps at the beginning of WWII. He served as a B-25 Pilot and Squadron Commander of the renown 490th Medium Bombardment Squadron, "The Burma Bridge Busters," in the China-Burma-India Theater. In 1949 Dick graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was hired by Boeing Airplane Company. He worked at Boeing for 38 years as a Preliminary Design and Propulsion Engineer. Dick retired from the Air Force Reserves attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol participating in numerous search and rescue missions. Not willing to sit idle during retirement, Dick launched a second career selling real estate. He joined with Sam Snead and later with Kary Ann Stanger selling real estate in the Amador and Calaveras County area. Dick was treasurer of the Blue Mountain Players in West Point. A memorial service to celebrate Dick's life and his love of ice cream will be held at the VFW Post #3322, Spink Road, West Point, CA on Saturday, August 7, 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name may be made to the Blue Mountain Players, PO Box 1022, West Point, CA 95255, or your favorite charity.
