John Acosta
December 27th, 1946 - July 11th, 2015
John "Johnny" Acosta, beloved best friend, husband, father and grandfather, left this Earth on July 11, 2015 to join his parents and his siblings; Ralph, Pat, Angie and Tommy. We were so proud to have had a "one of a kind" brother and uncle. He was a unique and special friend to many people throughout his journey in life. John was born on December 27, 1946 to his unforgettable parents, Juan Acosta and Petra Morales Acosta in Salinas. John served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and was a Vietnam veteran. Besides his family, he had a love for his cars (detailing them spotless!) and for his previous pet companions, German Shepherds and the presently, his boxers. Prior to retiring, he was a caregiver for many years to his mother-in-law up until she passed away two years ago. We will never forget the kindness and patience that was demonstrated day after day. John's phrase was, "If you can't understand my silence, then how can you understand my words." On behalf of the family, we would like to thank Dr. Ponzio and Dr. Rudo along with all the wonderful neighbors, friends and family members for their support and inspiring words, great memories and the hot meals. John leaves behind his wife and "love of his life", Mary Ortega, sons, John and Gabriel Acosta and Javier Ortega; our "girls", Heather, Diana and Alexis; his precious 4 month old granddaughter, "Baby" Arielle Aliah Acosta; brothers and sisters, Stella Vallejo, Amelia Acosta, Armida Trejo, Henry Acosta, Gloria Acosta-Nunez, Raymond Acosta, Caroline Martinez, Sylvia Acosta, Dorothy A. Sanchez and Samuel Acosta. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, with a Rosary vigil at 7 p.m., all at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 424 Towt St., Salinas, CA 93905. Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.

We Entrusted John Acosta's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
