Jesus R. Cordova, 88, of Salinas, passed away after a brief illness on October 29, 2015. "Jess" or "Jesse" as he was known to many, was born on January 22, 1927 in Brawley, California. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Ord, CA. After leaving the service, he decided to settle in Salinas, CA. He worked as a truck driver for various produce companies, retiring after 35 years. His likes were many and included reading, cooking, music, socializing with friends, watching telenovelas and old westerns. He was very keen on keeping up with all the latest technology. He was also an avid San Francisco Giants fan and a 49'er faithful. Jess is survived by his wife, Carmen; daughters, Jenny, Rosalie and Monica; grandson, Paul Hernandez; great-granddaughters, Andrea and Alyssa Hernandez, all of Salinas; brothers, Manuel (Connie) Cordova of Gilroy, Robert (Pura) Cordova of Fresno; sister, Ruth Del Rio of Sunnyvale; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Gaxiola of Salinas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Cordova and Raul Gutierrez; and sisters, Armeda Abina and Emma Torres. A Celebration of Life was held at the Regency Court Senior Apartments, where he lived for many years. It is a place he affectionately referred to as the "Last Stop" and where he was often referred to as "The Mayor". Thank you to all who attended. We appreciate all those who brought delicious food, who came early to help set up and those who stayed for the clean-up. We will never forget the kind words, generous contributions, lovely cards, flowers, prayers and song. Special thanks to those who visited our Dad at SVMH and at Windsor The Ridge Rehabilitation Center. Finally, we would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff who provided good care and brought comfort to our Father. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
