James (Jim) Dowling Schwartz passed away peacefully at Pine Grove Crossing on May 6th, 2024. He is survived by his son Dan and daughter-in-law Kim. Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 7th, 1928.

Jim served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He started his working career as a Bricklayer. He worked alongside his dad and brother until he discovered flying. Jim started flying at a young age at a small airport in Monroeville, PA. Jim met his wife, Alice Rhodes, in Pittsburgh. Their journey took them to Billings, Montana, and they finally settled in Denver, Colorado, in 1967. Jim worked for Frontier Airlines for 27 years as a pilot. During his career, Jim was the first Airline pilot to work back from a heart bypass. After Jim retired from Frontier, he spent most of his time helping others. Jim never lost his bricklaying ability, helping friends with projects. Jim was a sportsman and enjoyed shooting, riding motorcycles, and going to garage sales.
Jim will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery on May 22nd at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the American Heart Association or any of our fine Veteran Associations. If you plan to attend, please arrive at least 15 minutes early at the staging area.
