Dr. Eric Alan Wulfsberg
November 17th, 1945 - June 1st, 2022
Eric Wulfsberg, age 76, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a Pediatrician in the U.S. Navy for twenty years and a Clinical Geneticist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for twelve years, becoming a full professor.Eric was born on November 17, 1945, in Denver, Colorado to the late Einar Theodore and Lillian Marie (Heggem) Wulfsberg. He graduated from Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia in 1964. He then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts. At The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Eric graduated in 1972, and was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha (Honor Medical Society). He completed his Pediatric Internship at John Hopkins in 1973, and his Pediatric Residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia in 1975. In 1982 he completed a two-year fellowship program in Pediatric Genetics at UCLA School of Medicine.Eric married Sarah Prowse on August 28, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland. After finishing his training in Portsmouth, Virginia, his Navy duty stations were: Naval Hospital Long Beach, California; Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan; Naval Hospital San Diego (where he also taught medical genetics at UC San Diego School of Medicine) and National Medical Center Bethesda, Maryland. Following retirement from the US Navy, he spent twelve years at UM School of Medicine, Division of Human Genetics. In 1982, he and Sarah had their one child, Einar John Wulfsberg.Throughout his life he enjoyed photography. Other hobbies and activities over the years were: golf, hiking, walking, drone flying, and clay pigeon shooting. He spent many hours volunteering at Bethel Lutheran Church, especially with videoing worship.Eric was a man of faith and family. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; his son, LTC Einar John (wife, Nikohl) Wulfsberg, U.S. Army; and their two sons, Henrik and Soren. Einar is stationed at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany.He is also survived by his siblings, Einar John (Lone) Wulfsberg of Castle Rock, Colorado, Karen (Ernest Scott) Wulfsberg Strother of Nathrop, Colorado, and Bruce Warren (Cyndy) Wulfsberg of Michigan. He is also survived by Sarah's brother, Bill (Janet) Prowse of McCall, Idaho; and a host of friends.
