John Oren Schwaninger
October 6th, 1922 - April 21st, 2013
J. Oren Schwaninger, Sr. of Wimauma, Florida passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Hospice House in Sun City Center, Florida with his loving family by his side during his final days. He was born October 06, 1922, in Easton Memorial Hospital, to Ella Irene Longenecker and Charles Francis Schwaninger. The Schwaninger family settled in Talbot County from the Allentown, Pa., area in 1867, originally having emigrated from Germany some years earlier. Oren was one of six children (Francis Albert, Charles Edgar, Mary Edith, Joseph Daniel, and Eugene Spedden, all deceased). He is also survived by his wife of 65 years, Voncile McMillan Schwaninger, whom he married in Wimauma, Florida on May 4th, 1948. They met when he traveled to Wimauma, Florida to see his Uncle and cousin Elmer Lindale, who was married to Lucile McMillan, Voncile's sister. He has three children, John Oren Schwaninger Jr. of Easton, Maryland, Linda Diane Schwaninger of Palmetto, Florida, Sandra Dawn Schwaninger Price and a son-in law Steven Price of Easton, Maryland. Additionally, he is survived by three grandchildren, Travis Oren Schwaninger, Abigail Loren Price, and Rebecca Anne Price all living in Maryland. He and his wife own Hopewell Farm located on Schwaninger Road in Easton, Maryland where he farmed for 45 years. In 2003, he moved to his current home Wimauma, Florida where he retired. He also worked as a school bus contractor for Talbot County Public Schools for 34 years. He was co-¬owner of a fast food restaurant and ice-cream stand in Pennsville, New Jersey and also owned and operated a gas station and auto repair shop in Citrus Park, Florida. He had many skills; he was a great carpenter and mechanic too and would use his skills to help others without hesitation. He was a member of the Church of God and he served as a longtime member of the Talbot Farm Bureau. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Wimauma Church of God, 5504 State Road 674, Wimauma, Fla. Burial Fellowship Cemetery.
