Reed James Purcell
June 16th, 1947 - March 24th, 2024
Reed James Purcell of Indialantic, FL formerly of Perry, NY passed away on March 24, 2024. Reed was born to James E and Rosamond Wallace Purcell on June 16, 1947 in Niagara Falls, NY. The family moved to Perry a few years later. After graduating from Perry High School, Reed left Perry in 1966 to enter the military service. He married his wife, Linda in 1968. He later served in Vietnam as a Captain and Infantry Company Commander. For his service, he received the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, The Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm as well as other awards. Upon leaving the military, Reed relocated to Central Florida. He attended college and then spent his career in mortgage/finance and later as a mortgage professional in partnership with his son, Jason Purcell and nephew, BJ Sellers at Certified Mortgage Planners until his retirement in 2012. Besides family and golf, Reed’s main passion was exotic, fast cars and he was fortunate to have owned many in his lifetime including Corvettes, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Bentleys and Ferraris. Reed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda, a son, Jason Purcell(Gwen), a daughter, Stephanie West, a sister, Roslyn Sellers(Burt), a sister-in-law, Betty Signor, 8 grandchildren, Sierra, Evan, Collin, Leah, Jared, Ella, Nolan and Hailey, a great-granddaughter, Kya and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 27 from 1-4 at The Westin Hotel 2974 International Pkwy, Lake Mary, FL 32746.
