William R. Atwell
June 11th, 1923 - March 19th, 2009
ATWELL, William R. Sr. “Smiley”, 85, passed away on March 19, 2009 at the Pasco-Hernando Hospice Center. He was born on June 11, 1923 in Boston, MA. He was predeceased by Sarah L. Waldron whom he married in 1943, and was mother to his four children. He was also predeceased by his second wife of 44 years, Lucy O. Shiver; parents, Seth R. Atwell and Madeline J. Hanley; step-mother, Kathryn A. Hearn and grandson, Russell E. Atwell. Mr. Atwell enlisted in the U.S.A.A.C. in 1941 and served as an aircraft mechanic during WWII until 1945. He attained the rank of Corporal while in the service. He worked for General Dynamics at Cape Canaveral for 20 years and retired to Cocoa Beach, then to Land O’ Lakes, FL. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was an avid motorcyclist. He belonged to the AMA for 50 years, was a member of the BMW Space Coast Riders, BMW-RA and BMW-MOS, and was a faithful member of the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O’ Lakes, FL and Our Saviors Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, FL. Mr. Atwell is survived by his children, William R. Atwell, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Port Orange, Sherry Atwell Peterman and her husband Paul of Land O’ Lakes, Elaine Atwell Maus and her husband, Thomas of Oceanside, CA and Anthony Atwell and his wife Barbara of Aurora, CO. He also leaves nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Kelly Atwell Cassem and her husband Jason of Everett, WA, Eric Peterman and his wife Rebecca of Charlotte, NC, Mark Peterman and his wife Rebekah of Indianapolis, IN, Sarah Maus Kennedy and her husband Benjamin of Cocoa Beach, FL, Joseph Maus and his wife Valeria, of Melbourne, FL, Mary Maus of Jacksonville, FL, Rebekah and Andrew Atwell of Aurora, CO and Abby and Caleb Peterman of Charlotte, NC., Tamera and Carla Bogusky of South Riding, VA. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. hn glover death datepsychology and lung cancer
