Irene G. Nordstrom
October 16th, 1901 - July 29th, 2002
Nordstrom, Irene White, passed away peacefully in her apartment at Palm Shores of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg, FL during the early morning hours of July 29, 2002. She has joined her husband, Reginald F. Nordstrom, who preceded her on November 10, 1975. Irene was one of seven children. Her father, Herbert J. White, had mastered all aspects of the mechanical trade and continually followed these jobs around Northeast United States. The family lived in Massachusetts, Indiana, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Brooklyn, NY where Irene was born on October 16, 1901. A surviving sister, Gladys, is presently in residence at Palm Shores. When another of Irene?s sisters, Madeline, passed on April 10, 1989, family lore has it that Irene spoke to her mother and she said ?You kids are coming home, one by one?? And faithful Irene has been a steady contributor to the American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes for over two decades. She was particularly interested in music and made contributions to the music program. Irene revived this firm church foundation from her parents. She was known for her quiet and thoughtful support of the church. For years, she has helped continue the close association between Palm Shores and her church. Irene wished to be cremated and will be laid to rest beside her husband ?Freddy? in Greenville Cemetery, Hempstead, L.I., New York. Survivors include a sister, Gladys McFarlane, St. Petersburg; two nieces: Cynthia Dixon, Great Barrington, Mass.; and Marion B. Rohsler, St. Petersburg; and two nephews: Col. Edward B. White, Litchfield Park, AZ; and George Bastian, Pinellas Park. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to her church, American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes, 2812 Eighth Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704.
