Sturgis, Warren A., 72, of Madeira Beach died Friday November 8, 2002 at home. He was a native of St. Petersburg. He retired after 35 years with the United States Postal Service, the last 18 years at the Madeira Beach Post Office. During his Postal career he was President for 8 years of the Suncoast Area Local 1228, American Postal Workers Union. He earned his Captain?s License in 1980 and chartered fishing trips on the Proposition. He was past president of the Old Salt Fishing Club, a Madeira Beach Commissioner and Co-Founder of the Barrier Islands Governmental Council BIG-C. For 17 years he served on the Board of Directors for Directions for Mental Health. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Northside Lodge- 283 F. & A.M. and Madeira Beach Holiday Isles Elks Lodge- 1912. He was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School and attended the University of Florida and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the Florida National Guard for 13 years. He was an assistant Scout Master and an Eagle Scout. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet K.; two daughters, Karen Hoyle, Madeira Beach, and Pamela Sturgis, Clearwater; a grandson, JJ Hoyle III, Tampa; his mother Margaret A. Sturgis, St. Petersburg; and a sister Dorothy Salley, Madeira Beach. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes- Bobbitt Chapel, St. Petersburg.
