George O. Colwell
December 13th, 1918 - August 6th, 2006
George Odas Colwell George, 87, passed on Sunday, Aug. 6, at noon, in Arbor Oaks Assisted Living Facility under Hospice care. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1999 from Myrtle Creek, Oregon. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Arizona and in California from 1952 to 1978. He was an Army veteran, serving in WWII from 1944 to 1946. Later, he joined the National Guard, receiving the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. In his teens, he enjoyed playing baseball as well as other sports and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He attended the Faith Assembly of God in St. Petersburg. He is survived by his wife, Trixie ?Babe?; his daughter: Priscilla and her husband Richard Ely of St. Petersburg; his two sons: Steve and his wife Digna Colwell of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and Gary and his wife June Colwell of Mira Loma, California; his sister: Georgette ?Honey? Thomas of San Jacinto, California; seven grandchildren: Christina, Bridget, Richard, Michael, Sean, Carrie, and Josh; 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father George William and mother Belle Nave Colwell, his wife Mary Lorraine Colwell, and his brothers Franklin W. and Calvin R. Colwell.
