Edward M. Kasica
August 5th, 1924 - September 25th, 2006
Kasica, Sr., Edward M. ?Ed?, 82, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, September 25, 2006 of complications from cancer at Bay Pines VA Health Care System. Born in South Manchester, CT, he came here in 1965 from Fort Rucker, AL. Mr. Kasica served his country in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. One of the original ?Flying Sergeants? in the United State Marine Corps, Mr. Kasica flew in combat operations throughout the Pacific theater and was awarded seven Distinguish Flying Crosses and over 25 Air Medals during his career. After World War II, Mr. Kasica flew in support of the Nationalist Chinese forces of Chaing Kai Chek in China. During the Korean War, Mr. Kasica was one of the first Marine Corps aviators to fly the newly introduced jet aircraft in combat operations. Prior to retiring from the Marine Corps, Mr. Kasica served as a Presidential Pilot, flying ?Marine One,? for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Mr. Kasica was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft and served as a consultant to the government of South Viet Nam. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was an avid golfer, gardener, craftsman and woodworker. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy H.; a daughter, Carol J Rodier, Indian Trail, NC, three sons, Edward M. Kasica, Jr., Oldsmar, FL, John E. Kasica, St. Petersburg and Robert S. Kasica, Grand Junction, CO, a sister, Stella, Conn., a brother, Michael Kasica, Tenn., five grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.
