Popper, Violette Ruth, 97, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Alhambra Nursing Home. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she came here in 1974 from Cicero, Illinois where she was a Teletype Operator with Western Electric Company for 15 years. Locally, she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star OES, Clown Alley, and Clowns of America. She was known as Sparkles the clown and was voted the #2 woman clown in America in 1983. She is survived by her son Wayne Popper, Denver, CO; nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
