George Max Barber
October 18th, 1930 - October 1st, 2005
George Max Barber, 74, of Largo, FL and formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, died Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. He was born in Johnson County, NC and came to Florida in 1982 from Roxboro, NC. He was a 1957 graduate of Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC and taught Math in North Carolina and Florida public schools. He then studied at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He was a graduate of the University Of Florida with a Master's Degree and was a 1974 graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh with a Doctorate Degree in Education. He served as Dean Of Instruction at Piedmont Technical College and later as Director Of Development in Roxboro. Locally, he retired from St. Petersburg College where he was Director Of Development for the St. Petersburg College Foundation. He served on numerous state and national educational consortia and was active in community affairs. He was a member of Rotary International in Roxboro, was a marathon runner, and enjoyed water skiing and golfing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater and a former member of the Fifth Ave. Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church both in St. Petersburg. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Lay Witness Leader at his churches. He was a member of Gideons International East Camp, and served on the Boards of the Salvation Army, D&D Missionary Homes, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and Herald Of His Coming. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Jones Barber; two sons, Dr. George Barber of Greenville, IL, Matthew Jesse Barber of Greensboro, NC; one brother, John A. Barber of Darien, GA; one sister, Lois B. Moore of Sumter, SC; and six grandchildren. The family request memorials to: Gospel Revivals, Inc. P. O.
