Edith Cecelia King, 92, of Waco, TX and formerly of Gulfport, FL, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 in Waco. She was born in Washington, D.C., to Thorvald and Emma Nielsen, Danish immigrants who came to the United States in 1910. She met and married Dr. W. Bertram King in 1930. Their first pastoral service was in a small church in Clay City, IN. Later, they served at Fountain Memorial Church in Washington, D.C. and Moreland Ave. Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. She worked as Executive Secretary for the Southern Baptist Convention Home Mission Board in Atlanta for eleven years. Later, they served as Executive Director and Liaison for the Southern Baptists to Canada for ten years. It was at this time that they befriended a young man who responded to their challenge and advice. He referred to them as Mom and Dad. This young man is now the Executive Director of the California Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. and Mrs. King moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1977 and accepted a call as Associate Pastor to Senior Adults at the Fifth Ave. Baptist Church where he served until his death. Mrs. King remained until 1999 when she moved Waco. At Fifth Ave. Baptist, Mrs. King was a member of the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by three sons, Bertram E. "Bert" King, of Waco, Norman Nielsen King of Atlanta, Dr. Dennis Lee King of Boston, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. $(document).ready(function(){ });
