Barbara Brown Maddalena
January 1st, 0001
Barbara Brown Maddalena, passed away peacefully at Menorah Manor Nursing Center on May 25, 2014 at the age of 88. Born January 27, 1926 in Babylon, New York, Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Frank P. Maddalena, her parents Victor R. & Carol Brown, and her sister, Audrey Pease. She is survived by her sons, Clifford (Maureen) Lucido, Mark (Nicki) Maddalena, Richard Maddalena, Jon (Jamie) Maddalena, Michael (Becky) Maddalena; and grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Lucido. Barbara was a loving mother and grandmother. She had a long and productive life and several interesting careers. She was a Dental Hygienist in New York City and worked for one of the "Dentists To The Stars" in Manhattan. One of Barbara's regular patients was Frank Sinatra. She also worked as a butcher in a large butcher shop in New York City. In 1958, Barbara moved to St. Pete Beach where she was the girls Physical Education teacher at St. John's School for a number of years. Barbara then returned to school herself and became a Certified Orthopedic and Ostomy Technician. She was the owner of Barbara Brown's Surgical Appliances which first opened in the Pass-A-Grille Pharmacy owned by her husband Frank. She later relocated her office to Palms Of Pasadena Professional Building to be closer to the hospital where her business continued for over 15 years. Barbara enjoyed music, the piano, and singing. She sang professionally at several locations in Pinellas County but most of all, Barbara loved being home with her family and cooking for everyone. As recalled by her son, Cliff, "Mom was very quick witted and always had a comeback no matter what you said to her. She would do anything for anyone and was always giving of herself. She spent many, many hours at Palms Of Pasadena Hospital working day and night with patients who required Colostomy surgery. She would meet them before their operation, and she had a calming effect and was able to take away some of the fears that come with that type of life changing surgery. Her patients knew what to expect, and more importantly, she would be there when they came out of surgery to help them cope. She was a loving, caring, wonderful person and the world was a better place because of her." $(document).ready(function(){ });
