Mary Ellen Tisler

Mary Ellen Tisler, 93, passed away on May 10, 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a school nurse, farmer, homemaker, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.Mary Ellen (Kunkel) Tisler was born on April 2, 1922 in Kress, Texas to Oscar and Mary (Burhkul) Kunkel. She and the family moved to Dexter, New Mexico when she was two years old, where she graduated from Dexter High School. She attended New Mexico A&M and then attended the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri where she graduated in 1944. She married Andrew L. Tisler on July 24, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roswell, New Mexico. She was a school nurse for the Roswell School system from 1954 until 1987. She was a volunteer nurse at 4-H Camp and a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roswell. She was a master gardener and will be best remembered for her asparagus and tomatoes. Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew L. Tisler; sister, Elsie Clark; and brothers, John Kunkel and Pete Kunkel.She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Barnett of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her sons, Andrew (Nancy) Tisler of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Paul (Laurel) Tisler of Roswell; two sisters, Thelma (Delmar) Klein of Hopewell, Virginia and Elva (Carl) Leinberger of Roswell.Mary Ellen has eight wonderful grandchildren, Barbara Gohlke, Patricia Barnett, Cassandra Sisneros, Logan Tisler, Kimberly Barnett, Trace Tisler, Tiffany Tisler and Trevor Tisler. She also has six great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Nora, De'Anna, Dakota, Ty and Alexander.
