David VanLeeuwen
March 4th, 1947 - February 11th, 2009
VanLeeuwen, David Beloved husband, father and grandfather, of North Port, Florida, at the age of 61, went home to the Lord Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at his home in North Port, Florida. He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 4th, 1947. He moved to North Port in 1993 from St. Petersburg. He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served during Vietnam. After a year overseas, he was crossed trained into military police, beginning 34 years in Law enforcement. He worked 20 years for the Pinellas County Sheriffs Dept., leaving as a Sergeant, a year for the Gulf Port Police Dept., and 10 years for the Sarasota Sheriffs dept}. David was an active member of Suncoast Worship Center in Englewood Florida, serving in the choir, in the Alter ministry and visitation. He enjoyed fishing and collecting fishing reels and tackle. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Terry VanLeeuwen, daughter Vanessa Kay Piper of St. Petersburg, Son Matthew David VanLeeuwen and daughter-in-law Donna Mitchell VanLeeuwen of Chokoloskee, Florida; his grand children Mariel Erin Piper, Rebecca Lynn Piper, Destany Marie VanLeeuwen and Matthew David VanLeeuwen Jr.. Friends may call on Saturday February 14th from 12 noon to 1:00 pm at Anderson-McQueen Funeral & Cremation Center, 2201 Dr. M L King St. N., where a funeral service will follow at 1pm. Burial will follow at Memorial Park with a grave side service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Suncoast Worship Center Missions Ministry.
