John Barry Murphy
July 13th, 1951 - February 22nd, 2009
Murphy, John Barry died on February 21, 2009. John was born July 13, 1951 in Dayton, OH to Edward Francis Murphy, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth McCormack Murphy. He lived in Washington, DC, Short Hills, NJ, and Pittsburgh, PA, where he graduated from North Allegheny High School. He attended Pima College in Tuscon, AZ, and then worked on the offshore oil rigs in New Orleans. He worked for Oil Field Services with Texaco in Montana. He went to Jakarta, Indonesia with Shell Oil and moved to St. Petersburg in 1985, where he established a successful executive placement service. He was a member of the Board of Corrections Committee and took meetings into jails, detox and treatment centers, and also to juvenile boot camps. John was a kind, thoughtful, gentle man who took pride in his personal life. His humility kept most of his good deeds unknown, but many people benefited from his kindness and generosity. He always made time to help and was loved by his family and friends. He will be missed. John is survived by his brother, Edward Francis Murphy, III and Gerald King Murphy; his sister, Kathy Murphy Mellis and his Angel for over 21 years, Edie Spies. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian Andrew Murphy and his sister, Suzanne Murphy Youmell. There will be a memorial service at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. St. N. on Saturday, March 21 at 10am. Donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation or the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
