Juan Kirk Spurlin
September 7th, 1959 - August 31st, 2007
Juan Kirk Spurlin was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Mary Wallace Spurlin and James Royal Spurlin on September 7th, 1959. Please click on the link below to watch video tribute: http://videos.lifetributes.com/?id=12464 He was the third child, having both an older brother, Dwaine, and an older sister Kathy. Soon to follow would be a younger brother, Calvin. Family members tell of his industriousness and self confidence. A prayer he wrote around the age of eight was published in the local newspaper. He had a newspaper route when most boys of the same age were considered to be too young. Juan exceeded in most all sports, but basketball was his favorite. Juan joined the army at 19 and studied both Chinese and Korean at the Language Institute in Monterey, California. Juan also spent time in Korea as part of his military career. In 1987 Juan married Hyon and helped her to raise her two boys, Jason and Eric. The marriage ended after 13 years. Juan also has a son, Juan Kirk Jr., from an early relationship. On December 7th, 2003, Juan married Sue Ward, a widow. They spent 2004 working as private contractors to the military, working for seven months in Kuwait and five months in Iraq. Juan and Sue traveled throughout Western Europe during their vacations, and at the conclusion of their contract overseas, they took both of their mothers on a Caribbean cruise. Their love was something very special, and they danced through life in each other’s arms. Although Juan and Sue did not get a chance to “live happily ever after”, it can certainly be said that they “lived happily together.” Adieu, Juan. You will be missed.
