Rodney Irvin Smith
June 28th, 1939 - March 28th, 2006
None Rodney Irvin Smith, passed away Tuesday 28 March 2006, at his home in Rochester, WA. at the age of 66. He was born 28 June 1939 in Janesville, WI, son of Everett R. Smith and Flossie C. (Peterson) Smith. Rodney moved to Olympia, WA in 1951 with his parents and siblings Robert L. and Juanita J. Smith. He graduated from North Thurston High School in 1958, enlisting in the United States Marines, 3 Jul 1958, seving three years active duty and three years in the Reserves. He was honorably discharged, 2 Jul 1964. Rodney was employed with Weyerhaeuser over 27yrs. before retiring. He was an avid football fan and reader, enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and working with his hands. Rodney was a quick-witted individual, friendly, generous, thoughtful, and loving. I will always remember his twinkling eyes and "little grin." Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Everett R. Jr and Abram J. Smith, two sisters, Nina E. Schaffert and Alice L. Williams, a grandson, Thai Van Tran Smith, and long time companion, Elida E. Byman. Rodney is survived by six children, Brenda L. Smith and Darryn R. Smith, Aberdeen, WA; Sue E. Sophan, Florence, OR; Penny J. Smith, Hoquiam, WA, Marlo A. Smith, Olympia, WA; and Rita M. Pham, Lacey, WA; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert L. Smith and wife Lois, Lincoln City, OR; sister, Juanita J. Smith, Audubon, IA; numerous nephews and nieces, and friend, Mary P. Austin, Trapper Creek, AK. Funeral Alternatives of Washington, Inc., Tumwater, WA was in charge of arrangements and Interment was at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, King County, WA., Friday 7 April 2006.
