Benjamin J Skewis
March 16th, 1949 - March 7th, 2016
Ben passed away March 7, 2016 at Manor Care Center in Tacoma, after an 18th month hard fought battle against leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Skewis Sr, of Olympia. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandra; children Ben Jr and Deborah, step-children Chris House and Angela House, brother Charles and sister Louann. A native of Olympia, Ben graduated from William Winlock high school, and attended Olympic Community College. Ben was an Army veteran and spent seven years in the service, serving in Vietnam. After his Army service, Ben spent his career years as a marine mechanic. As a resident of Anderson Island since 2005, Ben enjoyed crabbing, fishing and other outdoor activities. He was a member of the Ralph A Barsanti American Legion post and also a member of the Riviera Community Club's Men's Group. In his last few years, Ben had become an avid golfer. The family extends their gratitude to the oncology staff at Tacoma General Hospital, as well as the UW Medical Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
