Glen Tolman Glen Tolman died on October 28, 2012. He was born October 19, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho to Fred and Ella (Sessions) Tolman. The family moved to Paul, Idaho and later to Rupert, Idaho where Glen attended school. He was one of four boys and had one sister. His father was a farmer and Glen loved to ride their horses. Glen left Idaho after high school and trained in aircraft assembly in Los Angeles. He worked there until 1942 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He continued to work on airplanes in the service as a sheet metal specialist. He spent time in England, repairing planes when they returned from bombing missions. Later he went to France and Belgium as a member of a Mobile Repair Squadron in the 9th Air Corps. His unit traveled into Holland, Luxemburg and Germany to repair downed aircraft or salvage parts for re-use. His unit participated in the D-Day invasion, the Battle of Northern France and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Glen graduated from Brigham Young University. There he met and married Lila Folsom. They had four daughters, Kay, Glenna, Ann and Lynn. Glen became a Boy Scout Professional following graduation. He worked in Twin Falls, Idaho and in Hermiston, Oregon, serving rural towns in both areas. He came to Olympia in 1956 with the Boy Scouts, serving mainly Lewis County. In 1958, he began working in Life Insurance and later received his CLU designation. He was a partner in the firm of GHB, Real Estate and Insurance, retiring in 1982. He was very active in the local and state Life Underwriter’s Association. From 1983 until 1990, Glen had a private Financial Counseling office. He also served on many local boards. Glen and Lila divorced and, in 1971, Glen married Janet Haley Carter. Glen was an active leader in local youth organizations, the Thurston County Fair Board, and the Olympia Kiwanis. In his retirement, Glen enjoyed collecting antique woodworking tools, and traveling. Glen is survived by his wife, Janet of Lacey; daughters, Glenna Olson (Erick) of Kelso, Ann Wilde (Alan) of Anchorage, AK, and Lynn Urvina (Lars) of Lacey; stepdaughter, Karen Haley of Portland, OR; stepson, Kevin Haley (Karen) of San Jose, CA; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay; his parents, Fred and Ella Tolman; his sister, Thelma Wrigley; and his brothers, Carleon, K.C., and Ivan. A memorial service will be held at The United Churches of Olympia at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
