Corey W. Gibbs

Corey William Gibbs, Sr., (37) of Tacoma, WA, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Tacoma General Hospital at 6:48 AM, with his family surrounding him. Corey was born August 18, 1971, in Tacoma, Washington, to Rebecca L. Gibbs. He was the oldest of two children and grew up with his brother, Justin. Corey was raised in the North End of Tacoma under the loving, watchful eye of Grandmamma Mary, Aunt Debbie, and Uncle Roger. He attended Jefferson Elementary, Truman Middle School, and Wilson High School. An avid sailor, Corey went on many excursions with the SS Odyssey and the Sea Scouts based in the Port of Tacoma. He had his first sailing lessons from his “Big Friend” Randy Plain, who played an important role throughout Corey's life. Corey's first job was with Proctor Safeway, and he enjoyed working there for over 10 years, through high school and college. He completed his degree in Computer Technology, and then was hired by Westmark products, in Parkland, until his passing. Corey is survived by his wife of 11 years, Natalie, 3 children: Kaitlyn, MaryMargaret, and Corey Jr., his mother Rebecca of Tacoma, his brother Justin of Boise, Idaho, his aunt Debby Hren and uncle Roger Dickinson of Tacoma, Washington, his uncle David Dickinson of Texas, and his Aunt Judy Robertson of Virginia. He has been cremated, and his urn rests in his family home. There will be a memorial service for Corey at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (s. 12th and Jackson Avenue, Tacoma) on Friday February 27m, at 2 PM.
