Bonnie Anne Matson
March 2nd, 1940 - December 30th, 2015
Bonnie Anne Matson (Preston) passed away on December 30, 2015, surrounded by loved ones at home in Olympia, Washington, where she had lived since 1965. The cause was sarcoidosis. Bonnie was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on March 2, 1940. She had a natural talent for singing, and belonged to her high school choir. Bonnie’s voice was pure and soothing, which served as an anchor for her family. She met her husband, Ward, only three months before their marriage, as they both knew they were the love of each other's lives. Bonnie had a gift for making every moment of her day productive, happy, and bright. She will be missed for all those qualities, but above all for her dedication to, and care of, her beloved family, to which she was the life force. Bonnie Matson is survived by her husband, Ward Matson of Olympia, Washington, daughters Cindy Szankiewicz of Bellingham, Washington, Carrie Armstrong of Castle Pines, Colorado, and son, Scott Matson of Takoma Park, Maryland. She was a loving grandmother to grandchildren Josie and Jack Szankiewicz, Dylan and Grace Armstrong, and Soren and Finn Matson. There will be a Celebration of Life on January 23rd (the weekend of Ward and Bonnie's 50th wedding anniversary) from 12-3 pm at the Jacob Smith House in Lacey, WA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: The University of Washington Center for Interstitial Lung Disease (checks can be made out to UW CILD in memory of Bonnie), c/o Dr. Lawrence Ho, University of Washington Medical Center, Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, Box 356166, 1959 NE Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.
