Jim was born Sept. 10, 1937 in Mabton, Washington to Fred and Ruth Randall and lost his battle to cancer on Sept. 26, 2011 at home in Fircrest, surrounded by his family. He grew up and attended school in Prosser, Washington. He enlisted in the Army in 1954, served 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1957. He then joined the Air Force in 1957 and retired from the military after 20 years of service. During his Air Force service, Jim was stationed 15 months in Labrador (New Foundland/Canada). He returned and went on to be stationed in Spokane, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Texas and California, retiring in 1974. After retiring from the Air Force he worked Civil Service at McChord AFB in Tacoma for another 20 years as Deputy Chief, Operations Support Branch. Jim married in 1957 to Carol Brown, daughter of A.G. "Farmer" and Etta Brown formerly of Prosser, Wa. They went on to have two children; Scott (Maureen) of Spokane and Tony (Nancy) of University Place. A great friend and neighbor, he was always there to help anyone. Jim loved the outdoors and spent many hours working in his yard, making sure there wasn’t a weed or leaf in sight. He enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, panning for gold, and collecting rocks. Being outdoors was his favorite place to be. He was always there if a neighbor needed help, a good friend and loved his family more than anything, especially his grandchildren who, to them, was their “Papa.” Jim was a wonderful friend, neighbor, husband and father. A kind man with a generous heart, who never wanted anything except to take care of his family and help anyone who needed help. He will be greatly missed. Donations can be made in his name to Multicare Hospice or your local Humane Society. *A little about my Dad, added by Tony Randall* I can’t say enough good things about my dad. I hope many of the things he taught me live on through my own children. I hear his phrases, bits of humor and tones in my everyday life that will continue to remind me of him. Probably the greatest thing I’ll miss is just knowing he’s here for me (us). I could always count on him helping me with anything. Any project that I needed to get done, he was willing to help with. Even if I knew what had to be done, I was always relieved to know that just by mentioning it to him, I would get reassurance about it and assistance if needed. He had a great work ethic, a “can do” and “get it done” attitude when it came to anything. Dad was also a master games-man. Whatever we played, at whatever age, he always seemed to win. Well into my 20’s & 30's, me being prime and thinking he was old, he’d continue to win at our contests: board games, outdoor games, misc. challenges, darts, back gammon, Frisbee golf, horse shoes, Pool, Strateego, cribbage, “Horse” etc. I just knew each time, it was finally going to be my win, but no. It would’ve been funny if it wasn’t so frustrating! I enjoyed every single one of those games. Dad was also great with my kids, his grandkids. He wasn’t beyond anything when it came to interacting and playing with them. He would endure hours of “tea party” with each of the girls when they were toddlers and they loved it. He would be at their level, on the floor playing whatever “princess” party was the current favorite and he did them all! They loved playing card games with him too. I know my kids loved playing with him too. They will have nice memories of their “papa”. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial. 253-566-1008
