Gloria Mary Simmons
October 3rd, 1931 - February 23rd, 2022
Gloria Mary Simmons, age 90, passed away of natural causes February 23, 2022, in Olympia, Washington. She was born October 3, 1931, to Matthew J. and Elizabeth Anderson in Portland, Oregon. After Portland, she moved to Corvallis, Oregon; Spokane, Washington; Fairbanks, Alaska; Spokane (1952); Olympia (1964); and then to Lincoln City, Oregon, in 1985 where she spent 37 years. Gloria graduated from Corvallis High School with the Class of 1950; she was involved in Girl’s League, Tri-Y, Junior Sales Committee, art, and school annual staff. She married Lewis G. Simmons on December 1, 1950, in Spokane, which took her to Fairbanks in 1950 as a military wife. She was a Camp Fire Girls troop leader (1960-1962), joined the Olympia Art League (1971), and worked for Dr. Shay M.D. (1973). She was a member of the Senior Center and National Camping Club. She was a housewife for 72 yrs. Gloria loved to lead Camp Fire Girls with her two girls, genealogy, oil painting, camping, traveling the U.S. and abroad (Europe, Holland), and sewing clothes for all seven in the family to use. She built two houses and remodel three houses with Lewis. She loved watching the waves come in at the beach, and painting the ocean waves, surrounding logs and flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with family. She is survived by her husband, Lewis G. Simmons of Rochester, Washington; sons, Ronald Simmons of Beaverton, Oregon, Walter Simmons of Rochester, and Kenneth Simmons of Richmond, Texas; daughters, Elizabeth Leaming of Dallas, Oregon, and Margaret Denny of Burbank, Washington; 12 grandchildren; 22 grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, William Stewart of Vancouver, Washington. She was predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Louise Roberts and Jean Carter. Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
