Michael Anthony Smolar
June 24th, 1957 - July 15th, 2017
Michael Anthony Smolar (known as Thumper to many), passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2017. He was born in Sunnyside, Washington on June 24, 1957 and lived in Grandview until his teen years when he moved to Kent, Washington. He joined the U.S. Army and served with the transportation unit in Frankfurt, Germany. He is survived by his daughter Becki Michelle Candela and his son Joshua James Smolar and a step-daughter Elizabeth Courtney. He has 3 grandchildren, Logan Mitchell Marshall, Isabella Marie Candela, and Tyler James Smolar and 2 step grandchildren; Olivia Courtney and Eric Brown. He is also survived by his brother Joe and his wife Karen and their family, his sister Sandra McNaughton and her family and his other sister Sonia and Fred Balliet and their family. He will be missed by many as he was a free spirit and he knew no strangers, he was befriended by all. He would always drop what he was doing to help others: he lived his life his way. If you wish to make any donations in his honor, please donate in his name to any VA approved organizations such as AMVETs, VFW, Wounded Soldiers or military related organizations.
