Dr. John J. Gilroy, 74, died peacefully on Saturday. Jack was a husband, father of two, and former teacher and dean of education at Seattle University. He graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, then earned his undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in theology at LaSalle University. He spent time in the Christian Brothers as Brother Daniel Benedict. He received a graduate degree in French at Middlebury College, studying in France. Jack earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh. Jack loved all things Irish, and he loved to travel. He delighted in the activities of his children and indulged his wife's ever-changing interests. Those who knew him will remember him as a kind, gentle and wise soul with a quiet wit. Jack is survived by his wife Helene Gilroy, son Jeremy Gilroy, daughter Kris and son-in-law Jeremy Higginson, granddaughter Siena Higginson, and siblings Mary Ann Boccolini, James Gilroy and Daniel Gilroy and their families. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. January 7, St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church, Bellevue.
