September 30th, 1935 - November 14th, 2020
Janice Billman Matassa, age 85, of North Port, Florida, passed away on November 14th, 2020 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Woodlynne, New Jersey on September 30th, 1935. Daughter of the late Alfred W. Billman and Sara Owen Billman. She was a graduate of Towson Catholic High School, Class of 1954. Janice was a bookkeeper for multiple Maryland businesses, but her passion in life was her artwork. She was an avid woodworker, painter, and crafter. She made custom pieces to share with her friends and family. She will be remembered for her love of animals, birds, and nature and the fact that she could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, no matter where she was and walk away with a new friend. She was kind-hearted, generous, and a fun-loving woman. She is survived by her son, Michael Matassa and his wife, Debi; daughter, Maria Matassa Myers and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Drew Buttler and Emily Bell-Matassa; great granddaughter, Shelby Bell-Matassa; sister, Joan Dawson and her partner, Russ Tagg; niece, Amy Edmunds and her husband, Richard, and their children, Claire, Sam and Will; nephew, Owen Dawson and his partner, Annie Monroe. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Vincent Matassa, to whom she is dancing with as we speak to ""Misty"". Services to be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She will be missed by all her family and countless friends.
