Derek Russel Morris (87) of Nokomis, FL went home to be with the Lord on May 7th, 2018. Derek was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 18, 1930 to Albert Cecil and Charlotte Morris. Derek graduated from Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. Derek had a career as an advertising executive with Dublin based City Publicity and managed several accounts including Hertz, Clairol, and Heinz. While on a business trip to America, he fell in love with southwest Florida. In 1969 he moved to Sarasota with his beloved wife of 64 years, Kay, 3 year old daughter Susan and 24 Wedgewood Yorkshire Terriers. After retiring from his advertising career and moving to Florida, Derek and Kay founded ""Guys and Dolls"", a well-respected child care center in Venice. Derek enjoyed gardening, playing golf (many years at Mission Valley GCC), dabbling in real estate projects and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a gifted story teller in true Irish form remembering all the colorful details. Derek and Kay enjoyed spending time together breeding world class Wedgewood Yorkshire Terriers. Derek is survived by the love of his life, Catherine (Kay) Morris (nee O'Kelly), daughter, Susan (Morris) Ruffino, Christopher Ruffino, Francesco Ruffino, Catherine (Katie) Ruffino. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, May 15th from 4 to 8PM at Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Avenue Venice, FL. A private Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at a future date. A special thank you to all the caregivers at Tidewell Hospice for their loving care.
