Walter Lawrence Wanvig February 4, 1930 to May 13, 2016 Walter L. Wanvig was born on February 4, 1930. He was the son of Roy and Anne Wanvig and the younger brother to Roy Junior. He was full blooded Norwegian and extremely proud of his heritage. He grew up in New City, NY, a gifted athlete in high school excelling as both a football and basketball star. After a brief stint as a stock car driver he joined the Navy. He served on the SS Sablefish submarine despite being 6 foot 4 inches tall. He then attended Taylor University where he majored in physical education. He met his lovely wife Donna at Taylor and they were married in 1954. After graduating from college he moved to Pleasantville, PA and he and Donna had two daughters Dawn and Kristin and a son Stephen. Walt worked for the Prudential Insurance Company before moving to Florida in 1967. He started working for A G Edwards after he moved to Venice, Florida. He worked for A G Edwards for 40 years. Walter lived life to the fullest and enjoyed multiple sporting and recreational activities. He was an avid water and snow skier, motorcycle rider, golfer, tennis player, sailor, and scuba diver. He and his wife Donna traveled the world when working for A G Edwards. He loved traveling and continued to be bit by the travel bug after retirement. He had a passion for music and loved singing in the choir and playing the organ. He was a soloist in church and in his community singing group. He also enjoyed model trains and raising orchids. Walter was a man of faith and was always looking for an opportunity to share his faith in Jesus. He was a member of Venice Bible Church until moving to Sarasota in 2007. After moving to Sarasota, he became an active member of Covenant Life Church. He was called home to heaven after a unexpected hospitalization and surgery. He is survived by his wife Donna, his daughters Dawn and Kristin, son-in-law Jorge and grandson Alex, and his son Stephen, daughter-in-law Nicole, and grandchildren Trey and Sage. He is also survived by nephews Wayne and Gary Wanvig in New York and Larry Wanvig in New Jersey. Walter's life will be celebrated at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 25th at Covenant Life Church, 8490 McIntosh Rd., Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be sent to his favorite Christian charity, Haven Ministries, PO Box 79997, Riverside, CA 92513.
