Isaac Walter "Ike" Congleton, Sr.

Isaac ""Ike"" Walter Congleton, Sr. age 87, of Venice, FL, died on April 18, 2016 at the Tidewell Hospice house. A memorial service will be held at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, on Saturday, April 23rd at 1 PM. Ike was born at home in Benham, KY on December 27, 1928 to Walter and Dora Congleton. He graduated from York Springs High School in PA in 1946. On September 17, 1948 he married the former Dorothy ""Dot"" Weigle, in York Springs PA. They were high school sweethearts who were married for 67 years until her passing on February 25, 2016. Ike and Dot moved to Hanover, PA where they started their family. From there, they moved to Detroit MI, where Ike was employed at an automobile plant as well as the J.C. Penney Company. Ike later devoted his 38 year career to JC Penney. He started as a part-time shoe salesman and eventually worked his way up the ladder to a retail store manager of several stores and also was a key player in developing the catalog distribution centers and catalog outlet stores. Ike ended his career in 1988 in Hartland VT and then moved to Venice, FL to retire in the sunshine! Ike was a devoted husband, adoring father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. As a member of the Lutheran Faith, he was very involved in leadership positions in his churches. Ike enjoyed spending quality time with his family, taking family vacations, playing cards, fishing, canoeing, being a tour guide to the many houseguests he hosted throughout the years and watching old Westerns and James Bond movies. Surviving family members include; sons David (Joyce) of Landisville, PA, Daniel of Pennsville, NJ, Jay of Nokomis, FL, and Isaac, Jr. of Venice, FL; daughter Debra Congleton (Jeff Sutton) of Englewood, FL; sisters Marie Allega, Allice Jacobs and Mary Congleton; 7 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
