One A.M., Monday, February 29th, 2016 we lost a great man, Raymond Ennis Cook. A man's man, God - fearing, hardworking, husband for 70 years, father, grandfather, great grandfather, taxidermist, pilot, hunting/fishing guide in the Upper Michigan and Canada which led him to become an honorary chief for the Ojibwa Indian nation there. A close friend of Fred Bear, the bow hunting legend. Founder of Cook's Sportland in Monroe, Michigan and in Venice, Florida. Ray is past president of the Kiwanis Club of Venice twice and a lifetime member. He was worshipful master of Masonic Lodge #27 in Monroe, Michigan. President of the Methodist Men's Group at Grace United Methodist Church. In all these capacities he created positive events for the organizations and our communities. Besides his wife, Edith Broadway Cook, he is survived by his five children, Darlene (George) Boddy, Malcolm (Gloria) Cook, Todd (Elisa) Cook, Eric (Barbara) Cook, and Edye (Steve) Shipps. And grandchildren: James (Michelle) Fowler, Dorothy (Kyle) Wilson, Ray (Jill) Fowler, Derek (Maren) Cook, Megan (Brian) Klatt, Jennifer Cook, Robert (Jennifer) Cook, Camila Cook, AnnMarie (Mike) Smith, Andrea Cook, Zachary (Sara) Shipps, Jonathan Shipps, Benjamin (Alison) Shipps, Brooke Shipps. And great grandchildren: Abigail (Valentin) Wilcox, Cody Ellsworth, Benjamin Ellsworth, Rebecca Ellsworth, Brigham Ellsworth, Jessica Ellsworth, Marlo Fowler, Zoe Fowler, James Teancum Fowler, Ethan Fowler, Carlee Ray Fowler, Clara Cook, Clay Cook, Janie Cook, Madison Smith, Savanna Smith, Parker Klatt, Gunnar Klatt, Colter Klatt, River Klatt, Ford Shipps, Hunter Cook, Wesley Cook, Elliza Cook, Millie Cook, and Rhett Shipps. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5th at 5 p.m. in Grace United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the church. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
