Mary Lou Bartley
January 16th, 1927 - June 15th, 2009
Obituary Mary Lou Bartley was born in 1927, daughter of the late Lawrence Bartley and Ethel Webb Bartley. Her mother died and she was raised by her loving stepmother, Nina Bartley. She received her Bachelors in Journalism and English in 1948 from the University of Kentucky and Masters of Education from the University of Illinois in 1977. She had many careers including journalism, advertising and marketing, fund development, political activism/lobbyist, teaching, and sorority/fraternity housemother. Among her many unique accomplishments were she was a State Administrator of the Ground Observer Corp, a delegate to a Democratic National Convention and as a civil rights activist, marched with Martin Luther King. She had a lifelong commitment to learning, and was an avid reader. Mary Lou had a brilliant mind and was always interested in sharing her opinions and passions. Survivors include 4 sons and a daughter, Michael Wanchic and Daughter-in-law Laura, Bloomington, IN; Nina Wanchic Eisner and son-in-law, Robert, Lexington, KY; Mark Wanchic and daughter-in-law Sherry, Georgetown, KY; Tom Wanchic, FL, John Wanchic and daughter-in-law Cecilia, Bloomington, IN; and 11 grandchildren, Faye, Noelle, Christa, Robert, Nicholas, John, Sarah, Michael, Jacob, Lucas, and Lilah. She is preceded in death by her sister Jackie Powers. Funeral Information No Services have been planned at this time.
