A gentleman and scholar Passed away October 9, 2009 two days after his 91st birthday. Norm is survived by his wife of 63 years Elaine; sons Norm (Linda) and John (Dorcy); daughters Anne and Sue (Phil); and grandchildren Paul, Allison, Katie, Megan and Abby. Born to John and Amanda Seethoff in Metolius, Oregon, his family moved throughout Oregon and Washington until settling in Woodburn, Oregon. He attended OSU where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and met Elaine. After two quarters, he enlisted in the Army and served for three years during WWII. Following graduation from the U of W in 1949 in civil engineering, he began a 36-year career supervising construction projects. He first worked for Crown Zellerbach, followed by the SPS Railway, and Max J. Kuney Company where he was construction supervisor for Lloyd Center in Portland. After joining Allied Stores in Seattle in 1962, he oversaw construction and expansion of Tacoma Mall, Southcenter, Columbia Center and Northgate Mall, along with Bon Marche stores throughout the Northwest. In retirement he continued to apply his engineering and construction expertise as a volunteer for Forest Ridge School in Bellevue, his fraternity and many other organizations. Norm was known for his integrity, intellect, and generosity to all. He always had a story to tell and delighted in entertaining young children. We fondly remember his jubilation during the Mariners 1995 play-off run. Norm will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 13 at Edmonds Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Civil Environmental Engineering, The University of Washington Foundation, or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
