Nils Rosok-Nils was born on the island of Har&oy, Norway to Lars and Johanne Rosok on December 4th, 1919. Nils grew up working as a fisherman and farmer until he emigrated to the United States in 1947 to take over his uncles farm near Dutton, Montana. In 1950 Nils married Evelyn Kestner and they raised their family in Dutton until they sold the farm and moved to Kalispell, Montana in 1972. Nils was a skilled, self-taught carpenter and in Kalispell he built homes and did general carpentry work. After he retired Nils and Evelyn moved to Washington where most of their children now live and settled in Port Townsend. Nils liked living there near the Sound and enjoyed going fishing as it reminded him of his native Norway. Evelyn passed away in January 1998 and Nils missed her every day for the rest of his life. After several more years in Port Townsend he moved to Edmonds to be closer to his children. They will miss his meatballs, his pot roast, and his cookies. They will miss his passion for discussing politics and his skill at Scrabble. They will simply miss him and will always love him. True to his independent nature Nils passed away on Independence Day, July 4th, 2011, peacefully in his own bed following a weekend visiting with all of his children and many of his grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Gunvar Solheim of Volda, Norway; daughters Mae Joanne Rosok of Kenmore, Washington; Karen Becker of St. Paul, Minnesota; Lisa Kerns of Seattle, Washington; and sons Larry Rosok of Shoreline, Washington and George Rosok of Renton, Washington as well as 9 grandchildren and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
