Ellen Jane Orner
May 10th, 1918 - July 31st, 2011
After 93 years of a beautiful inspiring life, Ellen Jane Orner passed away on July 31, 2011. Surrounded by love and family, in her home overlooking Puget Sound, Jane knew it was time to reunite with her husband, Ed, of sixty years. The family, friends and Edmonds neighbors have been blessed to know Jane as a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and most of all a loving, strong, gracious woman who made an everlasting impression that will continue beyond her years. Jane is survived by her four children, Joel (Tonia) Orner, Joleen Orner, Earl (Janet) Orner, and Shryl (Boyd) Brown; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jane began her journey in this world on May 10, 1918, in South Bend, Indiana. Her younger years included graduating from Edmonds High School in 1936, then later marrying her longtime sweetheart, Ed in 1946 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Jane and Ed were known as leaders, entrepreneurs, and active participants in the Edmonds community. They opened Orners Mens and Boys Shop in Lynnwood, Washington, followed by Orners Buster Brown Shoe Store in downtown Edmonds, which they sussfully owned for over 30 years. Ed had a passion for bus driving and, as he pursued this, Jane and her friend Wanda Russell continued to manage the shoe stores. Eventually, Jane and Ed started their own bus company, Edmonds Charters, which became their heart and soul. They mainly served local seniors, providing active day and weekend trips, Canon Beach, Oregon and Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, being two of their favorites. They loved the people, the activity, and lifestyle that allowed them to be flexible with their time and to be able to be devoted to their family, as well. Throughout the years, Jane established a few favorite activities: Daily breakfast at the Pancake Haus, endless hours of cards, tackling the newest crossword puzzle, annual trips to Lake Chelan, Washington, casino penny slot machines just to keep her busy, going on cruises with her family, musical theater, and definitely her most valued pastime, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane - We loved you the minute you came into our lives. You will forever be remembered and honored as the amazing woman you are.
