Lorene Hammond Ray

Obituary Lorene "Rene" Hammond Ray, 96, died peacefully, Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Maysville where she had lived since February 2010. Prior to that she was a resident of The Lafayette at Country Place in Lexington. She was born in Lexington, KY, where she was a life-long resident, the daughter of the late William Thomas and Bessie Stevens Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Carl "Jack" Ray, two sisters, Dorothy Hopkins and Sadie B. Payne, and two brothers, Jack M. Hammond and S/Maj. William "Bill" Hammond. She was graduated from Henry Clay High School. A member of Victory Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since childhood, she received a Certificate of Recognition for over 70 years of service and dedication in 1999. Lorene is survived by a daughter Jacqueline "Jackie" (Robert) Zweigart of Maysville and a son Walter Herbert "Herb" (Vicki) Ray of Frankfort; a granddaughter Suzanne (Randy) Richardson of Orient, OH, and four grandsons: Steven (Barbie) Zweigart of Maysville, Scott (Laura) Ray and Brian Ray of Park City, UT, and Jeremy Ray of Frankfort; and one great- granddaughter Elizabeth Anne "Liz Anne" Zweigart of Maysville. Funeral Information A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Victory Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Carl Wagoner and Rev. Vicki Ray presiding. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be her son, grandsons and granddaughter. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great granddaughter and her devoted caregivers: Billie Jo Chandler, Sheila Noble, Bonnie Nichols, and Tracci Frederick. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
