Robert Murphy
February 22nd, 1924 - March 28th, 2015
Robert F. Murphy, age 91, of Nokomis, FL, died on March 28, 2015. He was born in Marion, Ohio on February 22, 1924. Bob was a WWII US Army veteran. He was a successful entrepreneur of many businesses. He began with Murphy Realty, Murphy Insurance, and expanded into Marion Development. He owned a miniature golf and driving range in Port Clinton, Ohio. At age 50, he retired with his wife and seven children to Nokomis, Florida. Bob opened one of Venice's first doughnut shop, Dixie Cream Donuts, in 1975 (where Patches Restaurant is now located). In 1977, Bob was fortunate to have been a crew member on the ""Prarie Rose"" also called the ""9th Wonder on World"" for its maiden 8 mile voyage up the Myakka River to rest at Snook Haven. Bob enjoyed many adventures through his life; hunting and fishing trips to Canada and Alaska with his friends from Marion. He and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed many years of traveling all over the world by planes, trains and RV's. He shared his adventurous spirit with his children and grandchildren with countless trips in the RV, wonderful family gatherings on Palm Island, the Myakka River and Dahlonega, Georgia. Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis, for over 60 years, daughters; Gerry Murphy of Largo, FL, Sam Murphy (Bob) of Hicksville, OH, Michelle Murphy of Ft. Wayne, IN, Julie Keating (Ken) of Ball Ground, GA, and Lisa Blem (Don) of Englewood, FL; son's Shaun Murphy of Englewood, FL and Rock Murphy of Nokomis, FL; brother Ed Murphy (Shirley) of Englewood, FL; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Osprey. The family will receive friends at church beginning at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, masses can be said at Lady of Mt. Carmel, Osprey Florida. Service Information Date: Wednesday, April 1, 2015 Time: 10:00 am
