Online Obituaries for Lexington Mrs. Aileen M. Bainton died peacefully at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky on August 12, 2016. Aileen Demoulins was born on April 4, 1929 in Fawley, near Southampton, England. She was the daughter of Gladys Chandler-Demoulins and Harry D. Demoulins. Her father was a chemical engineer of the Royal Oil Co., head of Fawley Refinery, and was involved with the secret Operation PLUTO {Pipe-Lines under the Ocean} that made gasoline available to the Allies in WWII, specifically during the invasion of Normandy. Aileen was accepted into Oxford University Medical School in England, but chose to move her family to the U.S. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in New York in 1953. She held her nursing license till 2009, worked at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She married Donald J. Bainton on July 10, 1954. Her husband was the CEO of Continental Can Company, Inc. one of the largest packaging companies in the U.S. {sold to Suiza Foods, now Dean Foods}. Aileen and Donald moved several times across the country, landing in Greenwich, Ct and Boca Raton, FL. She made her final home in Lexington, KY. She was an avid golf and tennis player and she enjoyed Bridge and gardening, especially roses. She was a devotee practicing Roman Catholic. She was very active in her charities volunteering with the Red Cross in Greenwich, CT, the Salesian Missions, the St. Jude League, the Lighthouse for the Blind and supported the Nazareth House in Thailand. She was a member of Millbrook Club {Greenwich, CT}, Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club {Boca Raton, FL}, Union League Club {New York City}, and Winged Foot Club {Mamaroneck, NY}. Aileen was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Bainton after 56 years of marriage, her stepbrothers Morris Demoulins, Patrick Richardson, Douglas Demoulins who was killed in WWII, her sister Wendy Owens, and her beloved daughter Elizabeth A. Bainton. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Sarka and Stephen R. Sarka; her son Stephen L. Bainton and wife Rita Imperiali-Bainton; her son William Bainton and wife Claudia A. Bainton; and her grandchildren Christina Bainton, James Bainton, and Stephen A. Sarka, also, her nieces Antonia Owen and Georgina Owen- Tryhall of London, England. Funeral Information The funeral will be held privately for the family and burial will follow in Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich, CT.
