Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Rue Diane Dickens
March 3rd, 1930 - March 4th, 2015
Rue Dickens, 85, of Venice FL and Kennebunkport, ME passed away on March 4th in her Florida home with her family gathered around her. She leaves behind her sons Scott and Dirk, grandchildren Matthew, Sean and Anya, and great grandson Rye. Rue was born in Hollywood, CA and moved east where she attended McDuffy School for Girls in Massachusetts and Green Mountain College in Vermont. She then moved back to Southern California where she started her family. Starting in the mid 50’s, she worked as a real estate agent in the San Gabriel Valley, then as a bank loan officer in Newport Beach. Again heading back east, she worked as an administrator at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in NH which led to her opening her own private nursing home in the same area. Striking out on a whole new career, she opened Forsland House, a women’s designer clothing boutique in Kennebunk with Louise Appleton for twenty years. She has continued to reside in Kennebunkport while wintering in Sarasota, then Venice, FL. She and her close friend Lillian Knight have been avid golfers and she has been a long time member of Mission Valley, The Oaks, and the Field Club. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always there for her family, many friends and community members. A celebration of life memorial will be held on Sunday, March 15th at the Venice Yacht Club at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be given to the Mote Marine Dolphin and Whale Hospital in Sarasota. Go online to mote.org/support/oceans-of-opportunity or call Jennifer Vigne at 941-388-4441 ext 393.
