Alfreda Sheely Boone, 79, of Venice, Florida died on January 31, 2015. She was born in Lake City Florida on January 23, 1936 and graduated from Jones College in 1953. Freda and her husband E.G. (Dan) Boone were married on December 30, 1956 and moved to Venice as newlyweds to start a law practice. Throughout her 59 years of marriage she was known to everyone as ""Freda"" and devoted her life to her husband and her children and grandchildren, her Church and her work. Surviving her are her husband, son Jeff (Shirley) and son Steve (Jennifer) and Jeff's three children Caroline, Jackson and Annie and Steve's three children Megan, Stuart and Evan. A devout Christian, Freda was one of two surviving founding members of Grace United Methodist Church in Venice who are still active. She was one of the six founding members to organize the Church which started in 1959 and Grace United Methodist Church became an official Methodist Church in 1961. The Church grew rapidly to 1,100 members. Freda was President of the United Methodist Woman Organization and held other offices and served as the long time secretary of UMW. She served on numerous of the Church boards and committees and was active in the fund raising groups for Church expansion. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She attended Sunday School and attended Church services up to three weeks prior to her death. Freda was appointed to the Statewide position of member of the Board of Trustees of the Florida Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, Florida in 1990 at the start of a major expansion program. There she served as Board Secretary and then was elected Chairman of the Trustees in 1996 and served 3 years in that position. She was the first woman chair in the first 100 years of the existence of the Children's Home. Per her wishes, Freda will be cremated and her ashes placed in the Church Memorial Gardens wall. Her third passion was the Boone Law Firm where she served as office manager for almost 50 years. At one time in her career she managed 11 lawyers plus office staff. In a word, Freda will be greatly missed. Her memorial service will be at Grace Church on Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. Freda loved Church hymns and as people arrive the Church organist and Church pianist will be playing some of Freda's favorites starting at 1:40 p.m. The Church bell choir has asked to play at the service and the Church choir has asked to sing in a tribute to Freda. A time of fellowship, food and sharing will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to Grace Church, 400 Field Avenue, Venice, Florida 34285.
